Sharon Weir
My name is Sharon Weir, and I am married to Don. We have 4 daughters, Nicky married to Dean, Kristy, and identical twins, Lindsay and Kimberly. We came to New Zealand in 1994 from South Africa.
I am from Zimbabwe, and completed my schooling and nursing training there, before moving to South Africa to do my midwifery training in Cape Town.
Since coming here, I worked at North Shore Hospital as a clinical midwife leader, before going into independent practice towards the end of 1994. I have been part of Maternity Associates since its formation, and enjoy the benefits of being part of a large group of midwives.
I believe that pregnancy and birth are a normal part of life, and not an illness, and that most women can achieve a normal birth. I offer you the chance to birth at home, North Shore Hospital or occasionally Birthcare in Parnell. I am interested in homoeopathy and aromatherapy.
In my spare time (whatever that is!!), I enjoy spending time with my family, church family, cross-stitching, smocking, gardening and fishing.

Mary Wood
Hi my name is Mary Wood. I am married and have three children. I decided to become a midwife after the birth of my second child in 1985, and after completing nursing training in 1989, went directly into midwifery training, then after a brief time working as a midwife at North Shore Hospital, began working independently in September 1991 and have been doing so ever since. Over the years I have had the privilege of working with many women and families on the North Shore.
I work on the North Shore and deliver either at home or at North Shore Hospital, or at Birthcare.

Karen Morgan
Hi, my name is Karen Morgan and I am a registered midwife with a Bachelor of Health Science (Midwifery). I work on the North Shore, of Auckland in a well established midwifery practice.
The birth of my own children has lead me to my becoming a midwife, and being an independent midwife works very well for me in fulfilling my midwifery and parenting roles.
Pregnancy and birth are a special time in your life, therefore it is very important to me that my caseload is of a size where I feel I can offer the women I care for the best service where I am not to busy to spend time with them. Each of you will have different needs and it is important you are treated as an individual. I see my role as a facilitator of the birth process whilst encouraging women and their partners to make decisions regarding the care they require. Hoping that by the time they are discharged from my care they have had the birth experience they hoped for and have made the transition into parenthood confidently.
I provide antenatal care to women in their home if they have no transport, otherwise at Maternity Associates. All post natal care is provided in the community for up to 5 weeks.
My midwifery partner is Delwyn Evans, who practices in a very similar style to myself. During the midwifery relationship I will introduce you to Delwyn, so that if I am unavailable at any time during your pregnancy you will know who you are talking to. This enables us to maintain safe midwifery practice.

Delwyn Evans
HI, my name is Delwyn Evans and I am a registered midwife working out of a large practice on the North Shore. My interest in midwifery began after the birth of my second child and had a independent midwife. I enjoyed the relationship and wanted to be able to provide that continuity and partnership with other women., by providing all the information to help women and their partners/whanau
to make choices for their pregnancy, with my guidance.
I work closely with my like minded midwifery partner Karen Morgan, who I ensure my clients meet during the pregnancy in the event that I am unavailable. I provide antenatal care from my clinic, but do provide home visits if transport is an issue. Postnatally all visits are in your home.

I am an Independent midwife working on the North Shore, Hibiscus Coast and Rural areas around the shore. Pregnancy and the birth experience are special and exciting time in our lives and choosing a midwife is one of the considerations.
I trained as a general nurse. I worked as a midwife and a charge midwife in Johannesburg for many years before relocating to New Zealand in the late 1990’s. I worked at National Women’s for a number of years before being approached by a dynamic group of midwives on the North Shore. The organization and fantastic support of the midwives at Maternity Associates impressed me and I decided that it would be a fantastic opportunity for me to be an independent midwife.
My Philosophy
I consider that pregnancy and birth are a normal part of life for healthy women but also realise the uniqueness of every women.
I believe in respecting your choices and working together with you and those important to you. I will provide information and assistance to you to help you reach those decisions.

Debbie Greenwood
I’ve been a Midwife since 1980 and have worked in various settings over the years.
I’m passionate about providing holistic midwifery care, and my aim is for Mum (and Dad) and babe to be happy and healthy – feeling comfortable with their birthing experience. Therefore my practice encompasses the wonderful normal pregnancy and birthing process to the complicated abnormal process requiring Specialist care.
I have 4 fabulous daughters who have nearly all “left the nest”. My interests include being a Mum, tennis, music, theatre, people and so the list goes on.

Kate Modrich
Hi my name is Kate Modrich. I have been married for 21 years, and have four school-aged children. I was bought up in Browns Bay, and after two brief periods of living and working in Australia, decided to return home to settle and start a family.
Since the birth of my fourth child, and my own experiences of the valuable input a Midwife is able to give to a woman throughout pregnancy and birth, I have fulfilled a long-held passion to become a midwife myself. I enjoy the satisfaction that comes from walking the journey to motherhood with a woman and her family and feel that being in independent practice assists this process in the best possible way.
I work closely with my Midwifery partner Janette Cox and believe between us both we provide a similar style of care. I support birthing mainly at North Shore Hospital. I run my clinic from Apollo Drive with postnatal visits being in the home as well as at the clinic.
In my spare time (whenever that is!) I enjoy being with my own family, as well as Music (I play the flute), reading, sewing, gardening and boating.

Susan Edwards
My name is Susan Edwards. I have been married for 25 years to Paul, and have one daughter, Imogen who is 18. I am originally from the UK, and it is there where I trained as a Midwife obtaining a Bachelor of Midwifery Degree.
I moved to New Zealand in 2005, and worked initially at North Shore Hospital, firstly working in the Maternity Unit and then joining the KYM (Know Your Midwife) Team providing full maternity care for a caseload similar to Independent Midwives. In January 2010 I joined Maternity Associates.
It was the birth of my daughter which inspired me to become a Midwife, and I care passionately about offering care which is individualised and appropriate, ensuring the best possible maternity experience to women and their families. I believe strongly that pregnancy and childbirth is a normal life event and I am keen to promote that normality. However, my experience both in the UK and New Zealand mean that I am able to provide care to women who have some complications in pregnancy; sharing care with Obstetric specialists when required.
I work closely with my Midwifery partner, Gaynor Ronkowski, as we have a similar philosophy of care, offering antenatal appointments in our clinic, birthing at either North Shore Hospital, Warkworth Birthing Unit or at home, with all postnatal support at home.

Gaynor Ronkowski
Hi, my name is Gaynor and I joined Maternity Associates in January of this year (2010)
I moved to New Zealand 9 years ago from England where I worked as a Registered Nurse specialising in Renal Nursing. On coming to New Zealand I obtained my degree in Midwifery and worked at North Shore Hospital as a midwife on the ward and birthing unit until working as an independent midwife for the hospital KYM team.
I worked with my present partner Susan Edwards whilst with the KYM team for 2 years and we continue our partnership with Maternity Associates.
I have 3 children, 2 pet pigs, 1 handsome bull dog (although Susan would disagree with the handsome statement) , 3 cats ..Oh and 1 husband.
To share your pregnancy we need to develop a partnership. Partnership works with trust, support and respect and it needs effective communication for it to work. (Plus a little humour!) Your plans, ideas and expectations will be discussed and hopefully we can then embark on your journey.
I look forward to meeting you .
